Highfield Rugby Football Club was founded in 1930 and we are celebrating our 78 Anniversary in this 2007-2008 season.
Its progress and achievements in its first 78 years is a monument to the past and an inspiration for the future.
Physically the club owns nearly fourteen acres of land in the heart of a major residential and educational suburb of Cork City. A major redevelopment programme through the summer of 2007 saw the clubhouse completely revamped to provide one of the best facilities in the country, of which all members can be justifiably proud.
Highfield has a huge membership and fields teams in all grades while supporting a most vigorous under age section.
Highfield 1st XV play in the 2nd. Division of the AIL (All Ireland League)& our aim is to play in Division 1 rugby in the not-too-distant future.
| Almost as tangible is the virile spirit and tradition which the club has built up in a comparatively short period, ingredients which are vital for the future. The growth has stemmed from the efforts of successive generations of dedicated players and administrators, from humble beginnings in an open field and early year use of a stable as headquarters.
Achievements on the playing fields have played a vital role and if the heady years were in the sixties, when two Munster Senior Cups were won, success has rarely been far from Highfield’s grasp at all levels.
The club has contributed greatly to the overall development of rugby in Ireland, giving international players to the service of the of the national team and giving administrators to the Munster Branch and the I.R.F.U. | |
